Rasie a Glass to Good Hope
Brand Story
Embrace South Africa’s spirit of freedom, savor paradise in every glass.
Strelitzia’s South African Legend and Brand Origin
Strelitzia (also known as "Bird of Paradise Flower") is South Africa’s national flower. With its bird-like graceful shape, it carries the spiritual core of South Africa’s freedom and independence. Established in 1937, our brand is named after this national flower, tying its spiritual legend to winemaking art—infusing South Africa’s cultural essence into the wine, which becomes the soul foundation of our concept "Paradise in Every Glass".
Winery Establishment Background and Winemaking Philosophy
In 1937, moved by the free temperament of Strelitzia, winemakers who loved South African culture founded this winery—aiming to make wine a carrier of local spirit. Our winemaking philosophy centers on "original sincerity": we respect the terroir genes of grapes, retain their natural flavors with streamlined techniques, so that every sip not only holds the vitality of South African land, but also delivers the "paradise" experience of "the soul of freedom hides in the glass".
Characteristics and Terroir Advantages of South African Wine Regions
Our wines are mainly sourced from South Africa’s Cape Region (including sub-regions like Stellenbosch and Franschhoek): The Mediterranean climate creates day-night temperature differences; the gravel-mixed soil locks in moisture while ensuring ventilation; diverse terrains (coastal areas, mountains) layer the grape flavors—coastal plots bring crispness, mountain plots offer richness. This unique terroir diversity is the core foundation of our wines’ distinct flavors.

Winery
Centered on “Paradise in Every Glass”, Strelitzia Winery (SA’s Cape Region) blends: Bird of Paradise-filled vineyards/cellars, traditional-modern craft for local “paradise flavors”, SA-savvy pros upholding freedom, and eco-practices to keep flavors vibrant.
Winery Panorama
Nestled at the foot of Table Mountain along Cape Town’s Atlantic coast, our vineyards embrace South Africa’s unique Mediterranean climate—morning mists nourish the vines, while afternoon sun ripens the berries’ richness. Wander the estate, and stone terraces frame the coastal mountain skyline; every scene is the Cape terrain you know: the wind, light, and soil here are the very soul of South African wine.
Winemaking Craft
Team Introduction
Our owner is a local Cape winemaker, who learned the temper of local grapes in his grandfather’s small cellar; the winemaker graduated from the South African Wine Academy, then returned home with experience from Bordeaux estates; every member of our core team has deep roots in Cape terrain for over a decade—we’re not "outsider winemakers," but "our own people" who understand South African grapes.
Sustainable Development
The Retief family (3 generations farming) runs Van Loveren (SA’s top family winery), with 3rd/4th-gen staff. Long supporting the community, amid SA’s hope-triumph history, we advanced land reform/employee trust: 2004 (1st in SA wine/Robertson Valley) sealed BEE land reform with 116 staff/pensioners; 2008, De Goree won National Agri BEE Project of the Year.
